[Music] I am Emma Massengale horse trainer and adventurer thank you so much everybody for all your fantastic feedback and comments we've had a really good week this week everybody's here poor echoes trying to have a sleep of Charlie's making a peanut Nancy and the puppies are here it's just absolutely no hope whatsoever boy you're 40 winks here good dogs beside oh my gosh nope oh no they laughter the pom pom thing has no regard for this personal space business interesting reading what everyone's thoughts are on stallions and how they should live and things like that and I think I have to go on go on my own experience as well I mean he's my sixth stallion now and three of which have had been competition stallions as well as breeding stallions say you know have a little bit experience there with them and and what's really important for me is that long term the bigger picture is that he would be able to live in a herd with mares but also to live a domesticated life you know and that's the bit I think is really important I want him to be able to come away from his mares there to compete or ride or jump or go hang out with the gelding even so it's not just a case of yes of course I want him to have a happy life that's that's the top of my list of priorities but he also has a job to do as well you know he lives in a domestic world and he has to be a domesticated horse he can't just be a free roaming wild stallion that isn't gonna get us very far I absolutely agree that 100% he would be happier turned out in the field with Maris and that would alleviate loads of his frustration I think when I'm not happy to do right now is with a horse that you can't touch a lot you know he's very defensive of his body he's not very well handled in terms of like he's leading is dreadful and you know if the vet needed to treat him or anything you know he would be very difficult at this stage it's not a problem it's just it just takes time to get to train him to be okay with all these things and to be less defensive and I feel personally that turning him out in the field with their load of mares would give him that job of being protect there and guard of the herd you know that's that's where stallions job is is to round up his mares and protect the herd and to be on guard if you like and to see your predators and and you know unwanted additions people or things that come up and I think you know what I would worry about is that he would start doing that because of his lack of socialising skills with people as well as how he behaves with other horses I think what I worry about is that that he would start doing that with me because he already show signs of doing that but it was the dogs and the pig and yeah things like that he's quite keen to see them off and I don't want him to learn that sort of behavior yeah I don't want him to learn that sort of behavior when you know he could learn to be a bit more of a domesticated horse first undoubtedly yes as a stallion he would always I would always watch stallion to live with mares and be happy and her foal and you know live a very natural life but we do live in a domesticated world you know he is gonna be a domesticated horse it's not a case of just having a horse that you can enjoy through binoculars or a telephoto camera lens I want him step away from the pom pom dog I really want him to be able to come away and be happy to hack out with geldings and travel in the lorry with other horses and not to worry and feel anxious and uptight that he should be guarding his mares so I think we have to be a little bit sort of careful I'm quite realistic you know about that and I'm still keeping me for mines and and we'll see how see how he goes there was so many suggestions of who a scene took out in the field with you know that I tell you my own geldings I should turn him out with mares that I should turn him out with the goats I should turn about with the donkey for Charlie yeah that we should turn him out with x y&z but I mean from my point of view and you know baring mind that I'm the one that's here with him so you know I get to see what he's he's behaving like you know on a bigger scale and the way he interacts with other animals and things and you know this isn't some scene from Jurassic Park but you just take out some poor unsuspecting animal and and let another animal come along and potentially risk hurting them you know I want to make sure that ocean is well enough handled that he's safe you know he's safe for me to go and get him because what if I turned him out with them and I just let them get on with it and and he caused a massive injury I mean he could and then I can't go and get him I can't get him away from the other horse nice aliens are not playthings he's not a toy and he's a very serious raw animal and I'm not trying to say here is more than ears or less than ears I'm just trying to explain that all of my animals are very very precious to me and I love them all dearly you know they're my babies and there is absolutely no way I shall be risking any of them and just to see if it makes a scene a little bit happier as me man I've just been trying to do normal sort of jobs with a sheet and so he's been for example he's been going up and down the fields on the quad bike and this has been really enjoyable to him I think you know I lead him around all the time so it's kind of nice changed he gets a little trot as well behind it and it's just kind of breaking it up and also I suppose it's desensitizing him attractiveness over the future when when he stopped tracking hours and things like that yeah he's gonna be fine with cars like that see to put all these things in that I've also been just brushing him you've been desensitized to cam to the point they can't be happy to wear a rug [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] I think you know wearing a rug is quite an important stage for a young horse because it makes them feel like they're touched all over for a long period of time so he's got this thing on him all the time in it I think helps make him feel a little bit more courts as well so he's now wearing a rug which is get nice and shiny to you he's also oh yeah I've also been washing his legs off with the hose pipe and with us for many many Colts are he's as soon as you go to touch them he's quite defensive so I've been using the hose pipe unity comes in bit muddy so just wash his feet off and a spray of that sort of been touching his legs all over and making real difference actually he's so much better I mean he's he doesn't mind you doings front feet at all a little bit funny about his kind of wear up see with him I mean nothing very new and exciting just slowly he's really nice say yeah we'll see always so many other jobs to do around here as well I mean we've been busy changing or the yards around putting fresh chippings down that's always really nice something broken everywhere up and I find the widget yards are just really really useful in the winter because it gives the horses chance to go out too much even when it's really really wet because they would love all my horses to live out all of the time sadly they have to come in sometimes to you because Grampians just [Applause] spreading fresh drippings well I went out with the minis that was so much fun and taking them out on a good height you've been out a couple of signs as well just good just trying to get them a little bit fitter Lots dog walks as you can see from little buggers here it needs plenty of exercise we've had lots of lovely dog walks and they are funny because they're learning to be really sort of all-terrain I mean they get the hang of climbing up and down the cliffs and the waterfalls and yeah it's really cool it's nice to see them as they grow and how much more confident they get and things like that which is kind of really fun they also this week I had to take a load of sheep down to the market these are you lambs from my dad's farm he's just got a small holding but he had ten Jacob years and Tenley News and I also got to see lil lilz been living over at my dad's place and just to be a bit more sheep she was you know she's so tamed bless her that I thought it was good time fed again spend a few months with Miss dad's sheep but yeah so I took need you lambs down to the market who hopefully will go on and be a nice use for somebody else and we're starting to now think about how we grow enough grass if the weather ever dries up if it ever improves as we need to grow enough grass to be able to cut for haylage in the summer months for my horses and we make big bales cuts it cut it and wrap it and bring it back to my home which is about about five or six miles away from dad and it's just enough it just sees us through the winter so that's good I think we're down about our last ten bales now but it wasn't got my kind of my routine back in work and they've been doing really well bless them and there's so much fun and it is lovely like when it's so wet you can just work all eight at once but I can get aid exercise in one go which is pretty cool and I mean yeah teach them some new stuff at Liberty and enjoying just hacking them out takes quite a lot of work at the Sun gear because obviously we're just hacking trying to get them fit as well as I was riding in the arena as well but looking forward to taking them out and doing lots of adventures I've got so many ideas I spend the winter pondering over maps and looking at places I might like to go and things they might like to do say really excited about that and we've also got some clinics coming up as well which would be really great and I use the connemara z' for one of the clinics so we're just making sure that they know their job individually as well as as a team so that everybody who's on the clinic can get the most out of it but it should be really good fun we're really looking forward to it so I think that's us caught up for the week it's been a really good week and I'm really close next week actually I've got hopefully a trip planned with the ponies as well as obviously working on some new stuff back at home which I shall share with you also update you on Oshin and how he's getting on as well but if anyone has any questions do you put them in the comments below because I'm really happy to answer them maybe I'll do a question and answer video so if you have any questions or you want to know anything about my life my horses any of the animals bad dogs then d whack questions in the comments below and hopefully I can get to them for you thank you all ever so much for watching our videos and if you enjoy them and want to see more of what we get up to then do hit the subscribe button and yeah follow along on
