Description

When we think of portraits from the Victorian era, most of the time we imagine boring and depressing faces, patiently waiting for their picture to be taken. This is in part due to the slow camera process but also because of how smiling in the Edwardian and Victorian era was looked down upon. Not all people followed the rules however, and despite their technological constraints, we were able to find a few gems on the internet showing people smiling and goofing around for a picture even in the 19th century.

  • CharMaine Added I did notice Edwardian and Victorian photos rarely have smiles. I didn't realize it was frowned upon to smile. Glad we've moved on from that custom. And it was good to see people were just as silly as we are today in the other photos. That was refreshing. The Tea Lady, my goodness she's a busty one. Don't think they had the Guiness World Record back then.
