Vincenzo Florio had a need for speed. So in 1906, he created a car race that sent competitors blazing through the mountains outside Palermo, Sicily. Along the way, they encountered bandits, wolves and no fewer than 500 hairpin curves. This is the story of the Targa Florio, a beautiful competition that brought entire towns and villages out to watch for 71 breathtaking years.
