BIZARRE Prehistoric Creatures Video

Video Script::

here are the most bizarre creatures from hundreds of millions of years ago number 12. opinia one thing is for sure this guy is certainly weird he was kicking around before we humans even started to evolve opibinia lived during the late cretaceous period and early jurassic period and had 30 legs 30 flippers a lobster claw and an elephant-like trunk what were they used for nobody is sure about that but it seems like 30 was its lucky number number 11 quetzalcoatlus don't mind about pronouncing this name his namesake is the ancient aztec god quetzalcoatl this flying reptile was as tall as a giraffe and in a way almost identical to a giraffe only this one could fly and its wingspan was a massive 30 feet it was the largest flying reptilian in its time good thing for our aviation industry that they're not around anymore number 10 sharo vipteryx another flying lizard who definitely got problems with its looks this one was only one foot long its weird look comes from its legs it had four legs and the front two were extremely tiny but the back two legs were disproportionately long it had wings on those long back legs imagine that like if a bird had its legs above and in front of its wings it seems more likely that this flying reptile landed and took off from the water where it could use its back legs like giant flippers number 9 tanestrophaus the name means the long-necked one and as you can see it had a pretty long neck it could grow up to an incredible 20 ft and almost half of it was neck creepy this reptile is from the middle to late triassic era and it mostly ate fish why the long neck probably to strike quickly to bite unsuspecting swimmers and turn them into a snack number eight elasmosaurus wait wait wait did you think that neck tanistropheus's neck was long well think again elasmosaurus grew up to be almost 46 feet and almost half of it was its neck that's the length of a full-grown tanistropheus elasmosaurus was from the cretaceous period 80 million years ago it lived in something called the western interior seaway which was a great body of water that stretched from the gulf of mexico up to the arctic ocean above alaska why do you think all the states and provinces that have oil reserves have so much oil the fish and dinosaurs that lived in this great inland ocean that covered up modern day texas and oklahoma all the way up to alberta in canada when they died they fossilized and turned into fossil fuels as oil deep underground and elasmosaurus was one of the biggest of that time period number seven yekelopterus this was a massive sea scorpion that inhabited the region around germany and northern europe a fully grown one could grow up to a staggering two and a half meters long and this makes it one of the largest arthropods ever recorded it is scarier than it is ugly imagine stumbling across this extreme armored sea bug while diving it would terrify anyone and everyone this is the stuff of nightmares and some scientists suggest that it could still be living in the deep seas on the plus side imagine the amount of seafood you could get out of just one of these bad boys it's the size of a hundred crawdads put together number six josepho artegasia please give a round of applause to the first mammalian on the list joe is an extinct species of rodent in fact it's the largest mouse to ever exist it was nearly a thousand kilograms in weight that's basically a guinea pig the size of a cow this makes it easily one of the weirdest creatures to have ever lived i wonder how much rat poison would it have taken to get rid of this one or could you imagine the size of a mouse trap for this big boy here's a fun fact about mice there are approximately eight million people living in the city of new york and there are more mice in the city than people if every mouse in new york city turned into one of these beasts it would be a true science fiction horror movie number five stegosaurus here is another dinosaur in our list of the most bizarre prehistoric creatures of course many of the most bizarre fantastic creatures happen to be dinosaurs and the biodiversity of the world millions of years ago was absolutely breathtaking but this one is special because it is bizarre in multiple ways let's look at the more physical aspects stegosaurus had bony plates along its back and boy were they huge no one is sure what their function is some argue that it was for protection from predators some say it functioned as a body temperature controller absorbing heat during the day and using it at night and some have even suggested that they are for well love that's right a way to attract a mate by showing off powerful tough bony plates in the spine love is weird whatever they are for they sure are peculiar and what's this other thing stegosaurus had the smallest brain among the dinosaurs relative to their body mass peanut brain in a monster body well what do you say these were some odd creatures number four thylakosmius here is another mammalian who made it to the list of the weirdest animals in history interestingly these weird creatures were marsupials as well know what a marsupial is to put it plainly a marsupial is an animal that has a pouch of skin to carry its newborn babies kangaroos and koala bears are modern-day marsupials but this saber-toothed animal was one of them too its actual physical characteristics have not been identified properly since a complete skeleton has never been found but from what we have we know that it could have looked much like a saber-toothed tiger and is a distant cousin of modern marsupials like dingoes and opossums interestingly it was not itself a cat and only looked like a sabretooth tiger because of something called convergent evolution that means that two different animals ended up evolving to look and act very similarly because they both found a similar place in their respective environments nature is elegant like that sometimes number three archaeotherium you probably have come across animals like deer sheep and llamas in your own life right haven't you wondered how innocent and peaceful they are also there are very few people that have any sympathy for the poachers and hunters that kill them meet archaeotherium the distant cousin of deer sheep and llamas now this is wild they were downright ferocious in appearance they may have looked more like huge wild boars and had excessively strong jaws these predators were a force to reckon with and even hunted early rhinos and elephants good thing we don't see them these days number 2 arctodus simus here is another extinct cousin of a modern day animal arctodus simus is an extinct species of bears now if you are living in north america you probably know how ferocious a grizzly bear is right at least you should have seen it in a movie now take a full grown adult grizzly bear and multiply it by two and that's how you get arctotus sinus in body size this creature was massive a humongous 12 feet long and almost 3 000 kilos in weight that's almost like a small elephant this is the biggest bear ever however it was likely an omnivore because it couldn't find enough meat to sustain its massive appetite solely off of kills it had to eat a mix of vegetation and meat and that's how you know a balanced diet is key now it's time for the number one strangest prehistoric creature but first you have to comment which of these is your favorite weird animal which would you most want to bring back and have as a pet which creeped you out the most also give the video a thumbs up and hit subscribe if you're not already subscribed do the right thing number one therizinosaurus for sure it would be best if we ended our list of the weirdest prehistoric animals with the biggest weirdo of them all before that a question have you ever watched the classic horror movie nightmare on elm street you must be familiar with freddy krueger the razor-fingered killer that kills teens in their sleep now please welcome farizinosaurus the freddy krueger of the dinosaurs this behemoth was almost 35 meters tall and was the size of a large school bus its razor-sharp claws were unusually long compared to its body size they were an incredible three feet long but hey not to worry these guys were herbivores and use those claws to tear up plants and trees but then again don't you think it's a good thing that we don't have to run into them these days
