Description
“Tom Foolery” is a new, original Roaring 1920’s Speakeasy Jazz song, written by Barry Cahill, © 2020. The accompanying music video is a humorous, “vintage” PG13-rated 1920’s style video, with some Charlie Chaplin/Buster Keaton elements. The main body of the music video is 5:10. Then, there are humorous Outtakes, Deleted Scenes, an interview with Delene and Barry about “The Making of Tom Foolery”, a Photo Gallery, Fun Facts, and a Quiz, all totaling 12:55. The music video features the fabulous Hot Pursuit “Tom Foolery Speakeasy Band” (www.HotPursuitMusic.com). It also features Barry Cahill as numerous “characters”, (literally), and Delene St. Clair as various characters, playing “straight man” to Barry. “Tom Foolery” introduces Amanda Garoutte-Thomas and her husband, Cody Thomas, as the young couple. Delene writes: “They did a fabulous job—we all had a fun time making this movie, and laughing out loud as we were filming the scenes together!” Cahill & St. Clair have been married for 33 years, and have had so much fun creating this much-needed humorous project! After the song was written, Delene was the driving force behind getting the song recorded (www.BeatnTrackRecording.com), then produced, directed, and edited the music video, with help from fabulous friends and professionals! This is Delene’s first REAL music video! “We all had a blast!” Amazingly, Delene felt, without knowing why, the need to get the filming completed by the end of February. This was significant. COVID19 shut down all the filming locations, and, all of our lives, just 2 weeks later. Delene writes: “Here’s the hysterical origin of “Tom Foolery”: Barry woke me up one night, laughing, after having dreamt listening to a 1920’s band singing this song. He actually wrote part of the song in his sleep! Thing is, he doesn’t usually write funny songs, and certainly not in this 20’s jazz style! He dreamt he was in a Speakeasy in 1920. The singer was wearing a long raccoon fur coat, a “skimmer” straw hat, and was singing thru a megaphone. (Microphones for singing/music had not been invented yet). The band you see in this video has the same instrumentation that Barry dreamt. And so, “Tom Foolery” was born!” We are celebrating the 100th Anniversary of 1920, an amazing year, and decade! We hope you enjoy and will share this fun video, to spread laughter and LOVE to more people. We all need good humor in these challenging times! Lyrics: Tom Foolery Music, Lyrics, Arrangement, Performance by Barry Cahill © 2020 Why don’t you and me go down to the school early? For a little Tom-Foolery, Yeah a little Tom-Foolery You and me could fondle each others’ jewelry, Oh a little Tom Foolery, Yeah a little Tom Foolery In Paris France those tight pants, make ‘em say “Ooh La Oui, Un peu de Tom-Foolery”, yeah a little Tom-Foolery, In London town, they drop them down, ever so cheerily, “Yes a bit of Tom-Foolery,” Yeah a little Tom Foolery Every day you walk my way and it is plain to see, You should be next to me, You’re the one I adore. Every time we talk I say, ends in a fantasy. Wouldn’t you love to see, Our clothes on the floor — and a little bit more!? Whaddaya say come out and play down at the pool with me? For a little Tom-Foolery, Yeah a little Tom Foolery Misbehavin’ makin’ waves in our own little sea Oh a little Tom Foolery, Yeah a little Tom Foolery Every day you walk my way and it is plain to see, You should be next to me, You’re the one I adore. Every time we talk I say, ends in a fantasy. Wouldn’t you love to see, Our clothes on the floor — and a little bit more!? Whaddaya say come out and play down at the pool with me? For a little Tom-Foolery, Yeah a little Tom Foolery Misbehavin’ makin’ waves in our own little sea Oh a little Tom Foolery, Yeah a little Tom Foolery Yeah a little Tom Foolery, Oh a little Tom Foolery! THANKS for ENJOYING OUR VIDEO! PLEASE Subscribe, “Like”, Comment, and Share! :) Fun Facts about Tom Foolery: Delene made the 1920’s bathing suits. The long fur raccoon coat worn by Beau Dodio at the Speakeasy is faux fur. This was the coat that Barry saw in his dream, when he dreamt this scene with the Speakeasy band, and wrote the song in his sleep! Fanny’s brooch jewelry that Buster is fondling is Delene’s mother’s brooch from the 1940’s. Adella Blanche Zatroch is smiling. The antique sheets were crocheted by Delene’s maternal and paternal grandmothers: Zuzana Zatroch and Mary Durisek. The antique hand-sewn quilt was sent to the U.S. from “the old country” of Czechoslovakia (Slovakia) in the 1930’s to Delene’s mother. Beau Dodio sings with a megaphone, because microphones for singing and music didn’t come into use until the mid-1920’s. Barry did the whistle sounds with his mouth. Notice number of stars on the flag Prohibition began on January 16, 1920, when the 18th Amendment became law. The 20’s was wild with change, and the jazz age was born! Fascinating decade! We had fun learning about it!
