Snapshots From History Video | A Photographic Journey Into The Past
Description
Hello everyone and nice to see you back. We are taking a journey into the past via Snapshots from History. In the 1950s, Italy had a Bikini penalty, meaning you would risk a fine just for wearing a bikini. This photo, taken in 1957 on a beach in Italy, shows a young lady getting a penalty ticket by a smirking policeman. Ironically, the Italians have one of the earliest known visual documentations of a bikini, coming from mosaics in an Ancient Roman Villa in Sicily, dating back nearly two thousand years. In fact, in the 50s, many countries around the world, not just Italy, prohibited revealing bathing suits, as they were deemed to be too immodest to be worn in public. Little did they know that one day bikinis will grow to be one of the most popular female beachwear around the globe.
