Releasing 54 Elephants From The Chain - ElephantNews #Video
Description
Releasing elephants from the chain is certainly the best thing for elephants, but there are many challenges to be overcome. In particular, freeing an elephant, who has been accustomed to a chain for a lifetime, and restricted controlled movement when off of it, presents an opportunity - the chance to flee. That can be remedied by the provision of good food. More difficult is bringing individuals together into a larger group. It takes experience, patience, and dedication to the task. Every positive change requires many small steps.
Before Covid, Chokchai Elephant Camp had more than eighty elephants for show and riding. Hundreds of tourists flocked to be entertained by elephants each day. The covid crisis shut everything down. That elephants no longer had to work for tourists did not bring about a better life. On the contrary, the lack of income led to food shortages and neglect. Many elephants were sold as owners needed money to protect their business. The chain was fixed to their legs without release, and too many elephants died during this time. Mothers and their calves were also kept apart. The baby elephants were in dire condition, chained while young and not yet weaned. On the day we came to help, the first thing we did was to reunite the family again. Learn More: https://www.saveelephant.org/
