how long do you think you will live do you ever wonder if you'll hit a century well these animals can live for hundreds of years check it out number 10 orange roughy at number 10 is something nutritious and truly delicious with perhaps the cutest name on the list I'm serious it's the orange roughy is it orange more or less yes is it rough hard to say since I've never grabbed one with my bare hands however the oldest recorded Ruffy didn't end up as a meal on a table and lived to be 149 years an average orange roughy weighs about 7 kilograms that's about 15 pounds and grows in length to nearly two and a half feet they can be found mainly in the western Atlantic Ocean and in the Pacific and Indian oceans as well apart from being one of the longest living animals did you know that New Zealand operates the largest orange roughy Fisheries in the world and annually orange roughy exports account for nearly thirty seven million dollars in export revenue to the country number nine North American freshwater lake sturgeon number nine is grabbed by another fish as well the North American freshwater lake sturgeon these guys are known for their very long lifespan oh sorry I mean these girls are known for their incredibly long lifespans while a male sturgeon lives about 55 years the ladies of the species can live up to 150 years and the oldest recorded female is 152 years young but remember it's rude to ask a woman her age while there are almost 25 species of sturgeon an average sturgeon can grow up to 7 feet long and weigh over 108 kilograms number eight Aldabra giant tortoise number eight goes to the one animal you always knew that can live a long time a hint this one beat a rabbit in a race a tortoise this particular tortoise is Aldabra giant tortoise one of the largest tortoise species on the planet it can weigh nearly 250 kilograms and grow in length up to 3 to 4 feet and they can get as tall as 2 feet the oldest recorded Aldabra giant tortoise is 152 years old however there are different opinions about how long this giant tortoise can live can you guess why because most of the time these fellows outlive their human owners by at least a couple of generations number seven short raker rockfish he is pink and chubby and looks almost cute well almost coming in at seventh place is the short raker rockfish a species that lives in the Northern Pacific Ocean they are mostly seen in the sea lanes near Russia Alaska and California growing up to a length of one meter an average short raker rockfish can weigh nearly 20 kilograms rockfish are among the longest living fish species on the planet with an average one living for nearly 120 to 140 years and the longest lived short raker lived a record 172 years however overharvesting and other human activities endangered short raker rockfish around the early 1990s and regional governments took steps to limit the harvesting of the species number 6 Galapagos giant tortoise another tortoise contender takes the sixth place on our list this one however is much more popular here's a hint his ancestors were examined and investigated by Charles Darwin himself during his visit to their home back in the 1800s it's the Galapagos giant tortoise with a potential to grow up to a staggering 420 kilograms that's a thousand pounds and a lengthy four to five feet these guys can grow as tall as two feet that's nearly the size of a two-year-old child feeding only on herbs and vegetation longest-lived member of these gentle giants lived up to be 177 years old however that's only an observed and recorded galapagos tortoise some scientists claim that these tortoises may live up to 400 or 500 years another fact you should know is that it's that observation of these fellows that inspired Charles Darwin to first come up with the idea of evolution number five red sea urchin and urgent is a rowdy child who gets dirty while playing in the street but in the sea they are their own species apparently sea urchins can live for hundreds of years yes the fifth longest living creature on the planet is the red sea urchin living in the depths of the Pacific Ocean red sea urchins are among the oldest organisms on planet Earth guess how big these fellows are they weigh an incredibly tiny amount of 450 grams yes grams that's about one pound it's a perfect example that size doesn't always matter in survival however these little fellows have plenty of natural predators so it's unlikely that most of them get to live their long lives yet the oldest recorded red urchin lived to be 200 years old number four ruff eye rockfish the fourth entry of our list goes to the ruff eye rockfish just as the name suggests this fish is accustomed to rough living conditions living in deep Pacific waters ranging from 500 feet to 1,500 feet deep while in extremely cold temperatures the larger species of ruff eyes dwell deeper the average length falls between four to five feet and average weight is almost seven kilograms however the reason they are called ruff eye is not all because of their tough living conditions they actually have distinct spine like growths on their lower eyelids ruff eyes are known for their ultra long lifespan averaging 200 to 205 years and the longest one in record history was a little over 205 years old number three bowhead whale the third place goes to the only mammalian member of the top ten list of longest lived animals on earth this in fact is one of the largest heavyweights in the animal kingdom we present to you the bowhead whale this mammalian behemoth weighs an unbelievable 54 thousand 500 kilograms or in other words almost twenty fully grown elephants in length and average bow head can grow up to 60 feet unbelievable isn't it the term bow head is used because of the unusual bow like shape of the whale's mouth which kind of gives out the illusion that the big boy is smiling the longest-lived bow head lived a record 211 years it is amazing to see a mammal living that long number two Greenland shark the second place goes to another kind of giant living deep in the icy cold waters of the North Atlantic Ocean welcome to the Greenland shark it's one of the largest species of shark there is growing up to 20 feet long an adult shark can weigh nearly a thousand kilograms Greenland sharks are among the oldest living animals on our planet and are renowned for their extraordinary long lifespan on average a Greenland shark may live more than 200 years crazy isn't it the oldest Greenland shark observed was 392 years old to date many facts about Greenland sharks remain unknown and untested the Sharks are shrouded in mystery and it may take years of observations and rigorous scientific studies to understand more about these long living sea giants and now for the number one longest lived animal but first if you like this video hit subscribe and click thumbs up and let me ask you a question speak up in the comments below how old is the oldest person you know the oldest confirm human being ever lived to be 122 these animals are way older than that but technology may someday extend our lifespans into the hundreds of years number one ocean Quahog clam and now the moment you have been waiting for the longest lived legend in recorded history we now present to you the number one longest lived animal the ocean Quahog clam this mighty sea dweller well more like this tiny sea dweller weighs only about 250 grams but here is the truth the oldest of these little fellas lived up to more than twice that number in years let's get at our math hats and do some quick arithmetic the oldest ocean Quahog clam found was an unbelievable 507 years old that's almost 10 60-year old grandpas what is even more impressive is that they have the potential to last far longer scientists suggest that this incredibly far-fetched life span of these tiny sea creatures could be due to their slow growth process limited and reduced consumption of oxygen and some other reasons which are yet to be known there are even more amazing animals out there which we will talk about next time see ya [Music]
