hi everyone each of us is surrounded by a lot of stuff most often we know what all these things are for but sometimes a seemingly ordinary thing can turn out to be a real treasure a treasure worth a fortune or even priceless this happens much more often than you think don't believe us well see for yourself let's get it on a Golden Snitch how much do you think the most ordinary stone costs perhaps not nearly as expensive as the Golden Snitch from the Harry Potter saga but even a snitch will hardly bring you a huge fortune Oh will it in the UK town of Whitby in North Yorkshire a medical college student Erin Smith discovered a real treasure he noticed a ball coated with pyrite a mineral which looks a bit like gold Smith collects fossils and often explores the coast in search of relics from the past he's not always lucky but sometimes especially after a storm he can stumble upon a real treasure and the important thing is not to damage it so Erin carefully cracked open this niche to find spiral-shaped fossils of clever saris and extinct species of mollusks doesn't sound very impressive well according to experts the fossil inside the stone is approximately a hundred and eighty-five million years old these mollusks lived on earth during the Jurassic period of the Mesozoic area we can say that Smith managed to find a very distant ancestor of the modern squid a lost Rembrandt painting from time to time people discover long lost or even unknown paintings by famous artists and every time these discoveries make headlines as they're extremely important not only for auctioneers but also for art in general in 2018 a lost painting called unconscious patients which is part of the five senses series was accidentally discovered in the dining room of an elderly Landau couple when they died the picture was inherited by their daughter along with a bunch of other things as it often happens the woman didn't bother to take a closer look at the stuff and put most of it into the basement together with a precious picture in 2010 and that woman also died and the inheritance passed her son for a long time they did want to auction it for four years the picture was gathering dust together with silver coins and family silver in the end the painting was put up for auction for a ridiculous price only 250 dollars but during the auction the price skyrocketed as a result the painting was purchased by residents of France who bull set for 1.1 million dollars when he made sure that the painting was real he sold it to a collector for 4 million dollars well sometimes checking grandma's basement might be a very good idea Churchill's legacy okay so the stuff that you inherited from your grandmother might indeed be valuable but what about the priceless items found in the trash David Rose has been working in a landfill for 15 years and during this time he salvaged a lot of antique items three sheds in his own words once Rose discovered a cigar and a hat as well as more than 200 letters written by a woman who worked as a cook for Winston Churchill she wrote to her son and spoke in detail about Churchill's daily life among the rare finds was also a photograph of Churchill signed by him Mark Smith an antique specialist who studied the findings said that authenticity would be in question if not for the letters he estimated the items at twelve thousand dollars can you imagine how surprised Churchill would have been if he found out how expensive its hat was diamond treasure even the most ordinary jewelry can be a priceless treasure this ring was bought in the 1980s at one of the yard sales back then it only cost $13 the buyer just thought it was a nice ring but couldn't even imagine how valuable it actually was a striking realization of the true value of the rain came decades later when the owner decided to show it to a jeweler it turned out that the ring was made in the 19th century most likely it belonged to a very rich person or even a member of the UK royal family specialists at the Sotheby's auction house estimated the cost of the ring at three hundred and twenty five thousand dollars and then raised it to four hundred and fifty six thousand dollars keep in mind that originally the ring was sold for only three eighteen dollars eventually the ring was sold for a whopping eight hundred and forty seven thousand six hundred and sixty seven dollars but experts are certain that the final selling price is only a fraction of what it may be worth one day after all this is not just a 26 carat diamond but also a real antiquity perhaps in ten to twenty years we'll see this ring again at auction the current owner chose not to disclose his name a bowl worth two million dollars when you look at this bowl it's hard to believe that it can cost over two million dollars in 2007 it was purchased at a yard sale for about three dollars for about two years it just stood in the living room maybe the owner even kept nuts in it and only then he became curious about its origin and decided to find out if it's worth anything imagine how surprised he was when it turned out that the small bowl just a diameter of under thirteen centimeters was a real treasure Sotheby's presale estimates valued the bowl at between 200 to 300 thousand dollars and all because it was over a thousand years old the bowl or rather the ding Bowl is an example of Song Dynasty pottery a similar bowl has been in the collection at the British Museum in London for over 60 years in the end the rare treasure went to a Londoner Giuseppe Eskenazi but only after a prolonged battle between four bidders Giuseppe paid two million two hundred and twenty five thousand dollars for the bowl expensive umbrella stand do you have an umbrella stand well it's time to check if it's an antique like for example this extremely rare an expensive Ming Dynasty jar that served as an ordinary umbrella step for a long time its owner assumed that it was just an 18th century antique but he couldn't even imagine how valuable it was however the owner agreed to send the VARs to London for inspection and he never regretted it as soon as the valuable cargo arrived a specialist was speechless it turned out that it was a rare 15th century VARs with a unique drawing miraculously preserved to this day especially considering that umbrellas have been stuffed into it for a long time of course such a valuable exhibit was sent at the Hong Kong auction where it was sold for almost twenty point five million dollars painting in the Attic the painting Judith and Holofernes by the famous artist Michelangelo de Caravaggio was created in the early 17th century but very quickly it disappeared and the painting was thought to be lost for many years perhaps forever but in 2014 an incredible thing happened the painting was found in the Attic of an old house there was a lots of junk both valuable and useless but the owners of the house could have never thought that they would have been the owners of an old painting for decades it's hard to believe but the Caravaggio painting was lying behind an old mattress thinking it might well be of an Italian school of painting from the 17th century the owners contacted a Paris based auctioneer who specialized in old masters the painting was sent to Paris and studied for three months in the ends there was no doubt about it it was a Caravaggio he was offered to the Louvre but the world's most famous museum refused the painting was then purchased by a collector James Thomas and Hill for an undisclosed amount shortly before an official auction could be held ivory peace in Edinburgh in Scotland a family found an old chess piece in a drawer it was so old that it looks like an antique in 1964 this figure was bought for only $6 and since then it just lay at the back of a drawer in his small bag for as long as 55 years and so all the piece was found again and taken to an appraiser who could hardly believe his eyes after all it was not just a trinket but an ivory chess piece made in the 12th century well maybe the beginning of the 13th but still a very old thing anyway it turned out that the piece was a part of a famous chess set from the Isle of Lewis most of the set is made from walrus ivory and the rest is made from a whale tooth the figures were discovered on the island of Lewis oddly enough back in the 19th century and only in 2019 the new piece was added to the set the cost of the lost figure is estimated at 1 million two hundred and eighteen thousand four hundred and fifty dollars an old blanket Lauren Kritzer was unemployed and lived on $200 a month he used to work hard but an accident left him disabled so he could barely make ends meet and who woulda thought that an old blanket will become the way out of this situation the family heirloom a Navajo blanket from the eighteen hundreds have been gathering dust in the man's closet for seven years like the other people in our video Lauren had no idea that the blanket could be of any value once Chris's late grandmother took out the blanket to make a bed for newborn kittens and that was the only time that it was used but it turned out that this blanket costs about five hundred thousand dollars as a result the grandmothers dusty blanket was sold for 1.5 million dollars just imagine how happy Kritzer was dude are you looking for new technologies and great
