Video Script::

[Music] today I'm going to entertain you with a selection of matchstick puzzles for you to try and solve for the first one I've arranged 12 matches like this can you create three equal sized squares from this by only moving three map sticks the matches must be connecting and you do need to use all the sticks if you want to you can pause the video to give you more time here's how to do it for the next one I've arranged the sticks like this can you make four equal sized squares by moving only three matches [Music] here's how for this one I'm going to arrange the sticks like this a 3x3 stick square with a 1x1 square in the middle can you move four sticks to make three squares if you're struggling here's a clue the squares don't have to be the same size here's how to do it two big squares overlapping with a small square in the middle next I'm arranging the sticks like this and I want to see three equal sized squares by moving three sticks [Music] here's how it's the same pattern as the first one we did and if you want to you can move three sticks again to create our initial starting pattern the next one I'm arranging is a maths problem one plus three equals eight this is obviously incorrect so can you move two matchsticks to make the equation true [Music] here's how if we move the bottom stick from the eighth over to this side here and this stick over to we get one plus eight equals nine true for the next one I'm arranging three sticks into a triangle like this can you use three more sticks to create four equal sized triangles now this one's a bit of a trick we're actually going three D and I'm using the three extra sticks to build a pyramid shape like this we now have four equal sized triangles pretty clever huh it is very fiddly to get the matchsticks to stand up like this and you might find wetting the heads of the matches with some water helps I hope you've enjoyed watching this video if you want to see more you can click on the links or take a look at my youtube channel page stay safe have fun and as always thanks for watching [Music]
