Video Description:
Have you ever wondered why people say “ditto”? It’s one of those tiny words we use without thinking, but its story stretches back centuries—way before texting, memes, or even English itself. In this episode of History of Simple Things, we explore the surprising origins of “ditto,” how it traveled from medieval Italian bookkeeping to everyday conversation, and why it continues to survive in modern language, pop culture, and even old-school office machines.

I had NO idea Ditto went anywhere near that far back. That is amazing. While they called that "copier" in this video a Ditto machine, I've only known that machine to be a Mimeograph machine. That smell of the ink is like no other. That is like when I was in Fourth grade and they didn't call it a Ditto machine. Maybe that's from the decade before but not my era. Always leaning . . . and it feels good. Thank you, Mel!
