Description

Mr. REO, a Kangal dog with an impressive bite force of 743 PSI, is a testament to resilience and strength. From a tiny puppy to a towering canine, REO has faced and overcome significant health challenges. This article delves into REO’s journey, highlighting his recovery from a severe illness caused by a fox tail and his transformation into a healthy and spirited dog.

REO’s Early Days

Mr. REO’s journey began as a small, adorable puppy. Over time, he has grown into a majestic Kangal, standing at 30 inches tall. Known for their protective nature and strength, Kangals are a force to be reckoned with, and REO is no exception. However, his journey has not been without its challenges.

A Near-Fatal Encounter

REO’s health took a sudden turn when he began bleeding from his nose and became critically ill. A trip to the emergency vet revealed a fox tail embedded in his nostril, which had caused a severe infection. Fox tails are grass-like weeds common in North America, known for their barbed seeds that can embed in a dog's skin, nose, eyes, ears, paws, and mouth, causing serious damage.

Emergency Surgery and Recovery

The veterinarians performed emergency surgery to remove the infected tissue from REO’s nostril. He was put on heavy rounds of antibiotics to combat the infection. Fortunately, REO’s resilience shone through, and he managed to pull through this life-threatening ordeal. His recovery process was closely monitored, and with proper care, REO gradually regained his health.

Bath Time for a Big Boy

In the video, REO is given a thorough bath using fluff-off de-shedding shampoo and conditioner. Despite his large size and strength, REO exhibits patience and calmness during the bath. His thick coat retains a lot of water, making the drying process a bit lengthy, but REO takes it all in stride. The grooming session highlights not only his majestic appearance but also his gentle demeanor.

The Dangers of Fox Tails

Fox tails pose a significant threat to dogs, especially in areas where they grow abundantly. These barbed seeds can easily latch onto a dog's fur and work their way into the skin or other parts of the body, leading to severe infections or other health issues. It is crucial for dog owners to check their pets thoroughly after walks, especially if they have been in areas where fox tails are prevalent.

Preventive Measures

To keep dogs safe from fox tails, it is advisable to avoid areas where these plants grow. If such areas cannot be avoided, owners should inspect their dogs meticulously after each walk. Special attention should be given to the nose, eyes, ears, paws, and mouth, as these are common entry points for fox tails. Regular grooming and professional check-ups can also help in early detection and removal of these dangerous seeds.

The Joys of Recovery

Following his recovery, REO’s playful and affectionate nature has fully returned. He enjoys massages, treats, and spending time with his family. Despite the serious health scare, REO continues to embody the strength and resilience characteristic of his breed. His journey from near-death to full recovery is an inspiring tale of determination and the power of proper care and love.

Conclusion

Mr. REO’s story is a poignant reminder of the challenges that pets can face and the importance of vigilance and care from their owners. His recovery from a severe infection caused by a fox tail is a testament to his strength and the dedication of those who care for him. As he continues to thrive, REO serves as an example of resilience and the deep bond between pets and their owners.
