Video Description:
Take a road trip down memory lane to the local gas station for some fun and fuel. During the 1950s and 1960s gas stations started popping up all over America due to more and more people owning cars. Americans needed somewhere to fill up all those cars right? From the big city to the rural countryside just about every American got to experience this newfound car culture and with it the rise of the gas station.
Just wonderful memories of when, as a teen, I worked in a gas station. Thank you for your video.
I remember those times - I was just a kid, but my dad and grandpa had cars like some in this video. My how things have changed!
Why don't you have any pics of Delaware?
Gas stations in the 50s have not gone away completely. Just a few short years ago, I pulled into a gas station in Oregon and actually had an attendant walk up to me and ask how much gas I wanted.
Back in the 50's, the word service station meant just that- wash windshield, check oil, and check tire psi if you wanted. I remember the one in Mamaroneck, N.Y. well.
Love this video, Mel! Back when gas stations had so much individual character!
HI MEL , GREAT VIDEO !! - SOME TIMES THOSE FRIENDLY ATTENDENTS WOULD
" SHORT STICK "
YOUR DIPSTICK AND CONVIENCE YOU YOU NEEDED A QUART OF OIL WHEN YOU DIDN'T !!
FULL SERVICE HAD IT'S PITFALLS
STAY SAFE ! C. G.
In Cuba, some of these old cars are still running. They must have some of the best mechanics and body shop people n the world.
Really enjoyed this Mel. Thanks
Nice Video of "The Great Times!!!!!" Thank you Mel.
Most, if not all, of these people have now passed. My father, who worked in a gas station said that when there wasn't any business, he had to stand outside and wave people in!! Who would do that today ?
Ah, those were the days.
Wonderful video! I find it very sad that those days are forever gone.
Love seeing the old cars.
Those were the years I grew up--50s-60s and that was a fantastic look at all the cars I knew at the time--thanks Mel!!!
I specifically recall when gas was 19 cents a gallon and my friends and I would gather up our change so that we could "cruise" around all day.
Love these trips down memory lane in America. I can identify with most of them.
