Description

Tour this bright little floating home on a river in Portland, Oregon! It has a big deck surrounding it on two sides, and when you walk in through the bright yellow door, it's surprising how spacious it feels despite the small size. It has an open concept kitchen, living room and dining room with high ceilings and an amazing view on the river. And there's also a lovely bedroom with incredible wall-to-wall built-in closets for storage, a nook for a desk, and an ensuite bathroom with bright pops of colour.

This tiny float home is just 550 square feet (51 square meters) and was originally a small old float home in desperate need of a remodel. But when they opened up the walls, they realized they'd have to take it all the way down to the float and build new from there. In this video we get to see the before and after of the stunning renovation!

The float is made with logs and stringers, and additional flotation can be added as needed to balance out the weight of the boat, by adding foam blocks wrapped in plastic underneath.

Amy Sedgwick has been living here for 2 years, and she previously lived in 2 other float homes in Seattle and Portland. She sells float homes and she has written an ebook about float homes!

  • CharMaine Added Super nice place. Might want to hang on to it, in case Mexico doesn't work out. It's quite dangerous there. Not a snowball chance in hell I'd move there. Just be safe, above all.
  • Marty Added That is so cool!! She is truly a "Renaissance Woman"! My only thing is, I would like for my floating home to move once in a while. I guess that is the difference between a floating home and a houseboat. But it looks great! Thanks Mell!
  • Lynn Added cool
  • Mary Jane Added Fascinating. I could live in this house, perfect size for one person and the interior is gorgeous!
  • Ayn Added I love this house and your approach to life-any chance you can tell me about how much a home like this cost---renovation costs, etc.?
  • jack Added f I wasn't a care package for mosquitos that is whare I would be.
  • dixie doodle Added Oh My! That is where I would like to live!
  • Paul Added Really cool video of a different way of life.
  • Adele Added Really enjoyed watching
  • Lola Added WOW!! How interesting!!! I couldn't do that, but i' m sure many people would love it!!!!
  • Su B Added Something for everyone. I like the floating home idea. Would go nuts in such a small location. As much as I have financial difficulties, I'm not the type to solve them by leaving the country. BUT, I do love Oregon and I do love the water. So. Hmmmmm.
    Thanks Mel
