Video Description:

From shag carpets you had to rake like a lawn, to Pet Rocks that sold over a million units at $3.95 each, the 1970s were full of trends that made absolutely no sense, and yet felt completely normal at the time. Lawn darts with metal tips, CB radios in every car, leisure suits in every color, fondue sets at every dinner party, and macramé hanging from every ceiling. This video is a trip through the strangest trends of the decade, the ones that defined the good old days of growing up in America and left behind memories we still laugh about today.

Early useless capitalism . . . so glad it's much better today. But then again there is plenty of TEMU junk out there now. Every generation has to go through it. I do still wish we could get the Lawn Darts. Thanks for the trip, Mel. You always make me smile. :-)

Sorry! I was in Africa during those years, so I wasn't hooked by rocks or macrame twines!

My wife and I married in 1970. When I got out of the Army in 1973, I started trucking cross country. Of course, I had a C.B., but I'd have to look for another trucker that had antenna's on his tractor, so I could talk with someone. When C. W. Mc Call came out with Rubber Duck, everybody and their cat got a C.B. and that changed it dramatically. I remember everything on this video. But I didn't buy into most of it. My wife did though.

    I remember them all

WOW! That was my decade. I remember every thing that was shown on there. Klackers were so much fun, we didn't mind an occasional bruise on our wrist's. CB was huge in my family. We all had one, I even had a Sideband one. I remember talking to a guy in the Falkland Islands when the British landed and took over the island. What a decade!! I graduated High School in 1976, we were the Bicentennial class at Auburndale High School!I loved those things. PS, we dressed up for schools, hence the leisure suits!! Nowadays, kids wear the most slovenly clothes to classes. Oh well! Thank you Mel for the memories!

I remember all of these, some of them should have been kept, the quality of most things ie appliances was huge compared to the flimsy stuff made today.

I remember all of these and wonder why they left out the third color in the set: Harvest Gold, Avocado, Bronze, or Coppertone.
    Thanks Mel.

  • Annette

And I remember most of these!
