The Whiskey Point Pack: Winter 2024 #Video

Checked cameras in the Whiskey Point Pack territory a few days ago and captured some great footage/data this fall and early winter. So this will be the “Whiskey Point Pack Week” where we share what we think is super cool footage as well as some additional info on these wolves.

The pack is currently 5 wolves—the breeding female and her 4 pups. The breeding male disappeared sometime in the fall, and he was not with the pack in any video footage from November to present. We surmise he likely died somehow as it would be odd for him to just leave.

If the female does not find a mate here very quickly, the pack will not produce any pups this spring and will almost certainly be very small come next fall and winter. The mating season for wolves is late January-February in our area so the clock is ticking.

Lastly, the pups. Back in December, we shared a video from September showing that 1 of the 5 surviving Whiskey Point pups looked emaciated and not well. We suspected the pup had died by late October but could not say for certain.

Well, all footage of the Whiskey Point Pack since mid-October only shows 4 pups so that emaciated pup almost certainly died this fall. Still, the fact that the female has successfully reared 4 pups is far above average.
