Sacred and Special: Looking Back at Sunday Traditions Through Photos and Story

Comments

  • Little Bright Feather Added Our family time on Sundays was the family picnic. Even though Saturday is God's Sabbath, not Sunday, that is really pagan say for sun god worship. That is where Sunday gets its name. But Sunday was the only day when everyone was home from work to be together..
  • Charlie G. Added Thanks Mel !! I was born in1951 and we went to church every Sunday - But it was not quite as ideal as this video !! We walked to church and my mom cooked great meals and we did watch Ed Sullivan at 7PM
    Stay Safe ! C. G.
  • Patricia M. Added Yes, I remember it all. It was wonderful!
  • Glen Added That was the truth! Life was great back then!!!
  • Paul Added Wonderful
  • VJones Added Loved that video, brought back alit of great memories.
  • iotus2 Added I well remember the 50's and watching the Ed Sullivan show - but I also remember the Senator McCarthy disaster, and the segregation. Good times for some, but not for others
  • Paul Added Great memories !!
  • sarah Added I can't explain it but watching this made me break into tears as I remembered every single thing he talked about. I am what I am today because of my church upbringing and I am truly thankful for all the Sundays that were filled with family, food, and fun. I miss those days.
  • Nancy Added Great. These were my memories.
  • mercedes Added Times have sure changed since the 50's---and not for the better! This video is a real wake up.
  • Merridy Added Ahhhhh the memories :-)
  • Craig Added And for some families, after church lunch might consist of the same oatmeal as you had for breakfast, or that may have been the only meal of the day.
  • Phil Spangenberger Added Video notice arrives daly, but video of the day doesn't open up. Would loe to continue getting them.
  • Ham Todd Added Brings back memories of my childhood.
  • Mari Added Also, women and girls had to cover their heads when going inside a church; even if it were an emergency handkerchief. placed there "Those were the days my friend, we thought it would never end". Sadly, it did.
  • oldtom9 Added What beautiful memories! Whatever one's Christian faith, this was our life in the 1950's. Sports games, if held for children, were AFTER CHURCH, not in conflict with time for worship. Likewise, we did not run to stores to shop or for diversion. Yes, a better time in this respect. Will it return? There is hope. Everyone who is old enough to have been in this time, has a story - many a sweet story. Thanks Mel! A blessed day to you, your family and your many followers!
  • Mary Jane Added Sorry, the 50's were great times for straight, white people, not for people of color or LBGTQ.
  • Norman Added It's sad. It makes me think religious people blame the lack of religion on the ways of the current world and they're showing this to justify their beliefs and possibly force religion on us. According to a controversial new bill, Louiana will require schools to display The 10 Commandments. TheyLouisina feel by forcing it on people, it will make everything wholesome and right. IT WON'T.
  • Kathy Added It was a much better time then......slower, more peaceful and respectful. Exactly the opposite of today.
