Finally, the triplets have a playmate and boy did they have some fun showing off to the new arrival Baloo! Amazingly the little guy who was born less than 24 hours ago, totally kept up, showing off his new hops. I think Nigerian dwarf goats get two jumping earlier than many Nubians because they are a little lighter and have shorter legs.
All the kids loved the party, but Charlotte was very serious about keeping her a little ones in line and protected from the bigger goats!
Part of the reason we keep kids and their mothers separate from the herd for the first two weeks after birth is that it gives them a chance to work out finding their mother and being reprimanded by those who do not belong to them. That way once they’re with a whole bunch of other goats, they know how to behave and are not overwhelmed.
Aslan was especially hilarious today! Hopping all over the place like an adorable maniac, but still not totally in control of those long legs!
