Description

I love cooking over the fire, but I rarely have enough room on a standard campsite grill. I created this portable cooking setup to solve that problem. The total cost is under $25 dollars (plus the cost of any grill grate you choose).
Different stake lengths can be purchased (12", 18", 30" 36"). I debated about the 18" but worried they would be too low by the time they were pounded into the ground 6-8". As I mention in the video, if you are worried your cooking setup will be too high with the 24" stakes, mount your corner brackets on a lower stake hole.
You may be able to avoid the cost of the hose clamps by drilling through the metal stake or choosing bigger corner brackets that span the 3" gap between predrilled stake holes (then, drill holes through the corner brackets to match). Confusing...I know. The hose clamps make it a quick and easy project.
Next time I set this up, I'll probably move the stakes in a little more so the grate isn't spanning such a long distance (the grate will overhang about 6 inches beyond the end stakes). That should make it a little more sturdy in the middle. I might also add an additional stake or two in the middle if I'm using heavy cast iron or making a pot of something.
Two additional thoughts: Never get rid of a junk grill without first snagging the grill grates; you'll be able to use them on this. The stakes get pretty charred up, so I transport them in a piece of PVC pipe.
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions!
