Video Description:

This Texas Country Reporter classic is a little unique: back in 1998, we took our Texas storytelling across the country to Cornersville, Tennessee — the homeland of Davy Crockett and Sam Houston.

Larry Pefferly is a retired homebuilder whose retirement led him to hand carving wooden carousel horses. Pefferly never took an art class and often feels his father, sculptor of the renowned Iwo Jima monument, channeling through him.

Pefferly's hand carved carousel horses spread laughter and whimsy to children everywhere, helping to create cherished memories... even catching the attention of Neiman Marcus for their 1998 Christmas book.

What a wonderful story. I'm in TN. I just checked. Cornersville is like 12 miles from here. This is from 1998 though. Doubt he's still doing this but it's a great story, nonetheless. Beautiful gift to share with the world. His Dad was quite the special man for his work as well. Iwo Jima was a hell of a battle to be won. Hard fought. Thanks for posting it, Mel.
