  • Jerry Ison Added While serving in Viet Nam, my wife sent me a few boxes f space food sticks which I had to guard them as if they were some kind of gourmet treat. The sure beat the C-rations. But they were especially favored by the little kids who would line some of the roads holding their thumbs up to signal that we were # 1 with them hoping a little flattery would be rewarded. I began tossing the Sticks out and the scramble was on! I wrote my wife about how much the children loved getting those treats. She told her neighbors about that and they told their friends and pretty soon I was getting hundreds. It became a routine and even some of my scavenging buddies stopped eating the ones they "found" under my bunk and joined in the rare little moments of joy when we could interact with those sweeties.
  • Dee Added Some of games you mentioned I played in the 40’s. Jacks is one
  • Ham Todd Added I remember too much of this!!
  • Su B Added I was 11 - 20 during the '60s. I remember most of this, although I didn't get involved in most of it. Until The Beatles led the British Invasion back across The Pond. Although I've hooked my star to vampire lore, in the '60s it was "Never Too Young" that I'd race home to see. American Bandstand, The Ed Sullivan Show, The Twilight Zone, Jacks, and Star Trek.
And then there was 22 November 1963, 4 April 1968, and 5 June 1968. The decade wasn't all fun and games.
    Thanks for the memories, Mel.
