ABOUT THE SONG
"Sweet, Sweet Thing" is one of the Delmore Brothers' lighthearted love songs — a lesser-heard gem from a catalog of more than a thousand songs written by Alton and Rabon. It closes the album on a warm, sunny note, a reminder that alongside the blues and the heartbreak, the Delmores wrote plenty of songs simply meant to make folks feel good.

ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
Husband-and-wife duo Darin & Brooke Aldridge — North Carolina's multi-award-winning bluegrass pair, Grand Ole Opry regulars and Billboard Bluegrass Albums #1 artists — trade the Delmores' brother harmony for a couple's harmony, and harmonica legend Charlie McCoy (heard on records from Elvis Presley to Bob Dylan) adds the finishing touch.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
In 1926, Alton and Rabon Delmore — two sons of tenant farmers from Elkmont, Alabama — played a fiddle contest in nearby Athens. It was the start of a partnership that carried them to the Grand Ole Opry in 1933, onto more than 200 recorded sides for Bluebird, Decca and King, and into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001. Alton's six-string guitar weaving around Rabon's four-string tenor guitar, their close brother harmony, and songs steeped in the blues became a blueprint for the Louvin Brothers, the Everly Brothers, bluegrass, rockabilly and early rock 'n' roll. Bob Dylan has said the Delmores influenced every harmony he ever tried to sing.

A Century of Strings, Stories & Songs: A Tribute to The Delmore Brothers marks that centennial with 15 Delmore songs recorded by some of the finest voices in bluegrass and country. Produced by Jerry Salley; executive produced by the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention in conjunction with the Athens State University Foundation.
