A day at sunflower Farm! #Video
Description
Often days are very busy at the farm with large groups, yoga classes, and people coming on weekends to buy cheese and visit the goats. I thought it might may be nice for you to get a glimpse of a quiet day on the farm when often just a couple of small groups visit. On this particular day we had a small elementary school class from a remote Maine town visit to celebrate the end of school, and a group from a dentist office who all works together who also came for an hour to enjoy the goats.
Every year we have a number of people comment about dairy farming being inhumane to the animals. I thought the slower video might be an opportunity for people to see that the daily routine of the goats is much like that of a beloved pet. Breakfast, a day of lounging with the herd, some visits from people who love them, dinner, and off to bed. We have tried to design our farm at every turn to be the opposite of a factory farm model and let the animals needs dictate how we run the farm.
Each animal has a name and is respected for their unique personality. Every goat lives out its entire life here or at new farms where they go at eight weeks old. No goat is ever eaten. Anyone who knows Don Pedro, knows that he is exactly like a family dog. Well loved neutered male goats can make amazing outdoor pets. They nudge your hand to be pet, call to you when you return home to come visit, and love to supervise any jobs that need to be done around the farm. Because they are such good buddies, we never have trouble finding them excellent homes where they will be loved!
