    I'm in my sixties, so I remember most of these really well. Parades. Community Pool. Loading up in the station wagon for a weekend picnic are treasured memories. We didn't really do the camping as a family, but I remember those picnic BBQ's. A lot of those gatherings were sponsored by the VFWs in the area. Like Mary Jane below, I was from Chicago but going to the Forest Preserves for adventures were some of my favs times. Sometimes we would stay just long enough to catch lightening bugs. We always set them free. That was America! No matter your politics, we were all Americans. For those of us old enough to remember, hold thoses memories close to your hearts. :-)

    Ah yes, when Memorial Day (plus the next two weeks) signalled the start of Summer and Labor Day signalled its end. I spent 10-1/2 summers in camp, so all I had to clean out was my trunk!
