[Music] before Clint Eastwood and the spaghetti-western the world fell in love with Roy Rogers and other kinder gentler guitar strumming Cowboys of Hollywood the time of Chuck wagons and long haul cattle drives were pretty much history but for little boys and girls like Devon Dawson the American West lived on through the movies I was fascinated with the West there weren't famous dime novels written Wild Bill Hickok and Buffalo Bill as that began to age in mellow with history it became some of the best vehicle for newborn movie industry well if we all have an inner child then Devin Dawson must have an inner cowgirl take some inherited musical talent mix in a fixation on boots hats and neckerchief sand choosing a career is pretty simple see Devin's daddy raised her to play western music [Music] [Music] there's an old joke now what's the difference between country music and western music and in country music the guys singing about his neighbors ply and in western music he's singing about his neighbors horse Evans pickin and grinnin would be right at home on the range and she can really Strummer vocal cords - every week she heads down to the Fort Worth Stockyards to perform an old Austrian tradition with a Texas twist round here they know her as cow town's own singing yodel and cowgirls [Music] that's the best thing about yodeling is you have to dream when you yodel it kind of makes you do it you feel silly at first and you need to get good at it to feel silly but there's an element of pride to it to be able to do it well Devin's gotten this unique western sound down to a science she even gödel Don a Grammy award-winning album for Disney's Toy Story 2 has the voice of Jesse the singing cowgirl now she holds a monthly class at the stockyards teaching her group of buckaroos how to yodel just like Jesse [Music] there's a discovery there the child suddenly realizes they have an ability in themselves it's not an instrument apart for themselves it's an ability that they can develop what a challenge to take something that's very unique that most people don't know about haven't heard and wouldn't even dream of doing in front of other people Devin says you don't have to be a Texan to appreciate a well-pitched yodel but it certainly helps one thing for sure if the teary-eyed ballads of country music have got you so lonesome you could cry well a little yodeling and some Western Swing will get you back in the saddle again it's the feeling that you get from inside when it just ripples out there's a it's like sunshine and yellow it's a if you're ever feeling blue a little yellow pick you up and if you're feeling good a little help you let it out even little babies when they hear yoli milk out perk up and turn around personally I think there's a yodeler in everybody [Music] yeah [Music] you
