Triplet Goat Babies to Celebrate Earth Day!
Description
Happy Earth Day!
Olive has three doelings!! Maizy (brown, white, black and grey), Sweet Pea (black with white under front legs and on head) and Bessie (black with white on top of head). They began arriving just minutes after I logged on with a 3rd-grade classroom in Danbury, CT. The kids watched the whole thing! I just set down the computer and we went with it as I helped Olive and they asked questions. Thank goodness the delivery was perfect (thanks Olive!) so that made chatting and getting the babies out easy and what a memory. It may be one of my favorite life/teaching memories and I am unlikely to forget the sweet faces of those kids each in their own rooms watching goats be born! They were so smart and asked questions about genetics and feeding and more. And if all that was not enough...two people who love Olive most, besides me, were watching the birth! Nicola in Scotland who watches the cam a lot and came to meet the goats was watching from home. Olive is her favorite and when she visited Maine it was so awesome to see them together. And Megan, who has goats from us from previous years and sends me lots of photos of what they are up to was also logged on at the perfect time, because she was at the top of our list and waiting with the hope of 2-3 Olive doelings. And boy did Olive deliver! The perfect healthy trio!
Many of us may be forced to be apart right now, but we carry with us at all times all the meaningful deep connections to those we love. All the names were and picked by farm friends for loved ones, grandchildren, and a grandmother and reflect that love.
