Protective New Mama Goat

Last night around 7:30 after a day of being very noisy, unusual for Radish since she never makes a peep, she had two kids! This is the third birth of the season and thankfully it was as easy as the first two. Radish is very serious about her mothering. She is not letting the barn cats anywhere near her kids and chases them away if they think of introducing themselves to the newest kids in the barn! This morning the buckets were frozen over, but I think we are moving towards warmers days. Just in case, the new little ones got sweaters today to make sure they put all their energy into nursing and growing instead of staying warm. Staying with our goats in space theme, the white doeling is Astrid (Astrid-1 and Astrid-2 were two microsatellites designed and developed by Swedish Space Corporation on behalf of the Swedish National Space Board) and the caramel colored buckling is Archer (Archer is the name of the half-man and half-horse Sagittarius group of stars and means ‘strength and power).
