She did a wonderful job giving the squirrel a chance at life.
I am a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in N.Y. that specializes in squirrels. It is important to locate a rehabber that raises squirrels because their dietary needs change as they grow and releasing them at an appropriate age is vital.
My wife did the same thing with a baby bird. Soon word got around that she had taken in a baby bird and that netted us more baby birds that were found on the ground. She raised them in our house and as soon as they feathered out and could fly she turned them out to the wild. Sometimes that was not an easy task. Just word to mouth netted her a long line of baby birds to raise over several years. No, she was not able to save all of them but more than half. It gave us a new perspective of wild birds. They all were far more intelligent than we were told, and most were able to relate to us and other people even after being returned to the wild. I still look at all wild birds with a different view now.
