Video Description:

In this interview, Mike, who is approaching 72, reflects on his life experiences. He shares that despite a challenging childhood marked by bullying and dyslexia, he finds greater happiness in his older age. His uncle, a former professional fighter, helped him learn to defend himself, which eventually stopped the bullying.

Retired from the Los Angeles Police Department, Mike discusses the complexities and high costs of health insurance for seniors, expressing concern for those unable to navigate these challenges.

Mike's definition of success has evolved over time. He now believes success is living a happy life, regardless of wealth or status, and regrets allowing others to limit him due to his learning disability. Despite these limitations, he authored two books, one of which won an award.

For Mike, the key to happiness lies in family relationships and friendships, maintaining a positive outlook, and not letting negativity affect him. He humorously recounts how he deals with rude behavior at the gym by indirectly addressing the issue.

Too bad adults did not help him as a child. And, too bad he still dwells on it and has never healed from it. Hate to see folks stuck in hurt instead of health.

    A good man!

What a special man with much wisdom . . . we would be wise to heed that wisdom.

And navigating the healthcare system is atrocious anyway but for seniors, omg. I tend to an amputee and learning the system is like crazytown. The older folks, they have no idea what is going on bc it's made to be so unnecessarily complicated especially for them. I watched and learned the system. Then I took them (her providers) all to task for scamming Medicare & Medicaid. This woman's husband passed & no kids so nobody to turn to for help. The fraud that goes on is staggering. No wonder we are 35T in debt. My heart goes out to all the seniors trying to work in the framework that is govt healthcare. If you are younger, and you know someone struggling with the system, please intervene on their behalf. It will make God smile.

One thing ESPECIALLY you should remember and treasure when getting OLD. And that is: DO NOT EVER LOSE YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR. Nourish it. And when nourished and lively, TREASURE IT. You will enjoy it and everyone else will enjoy YOU.

What Mike calls happiness, I call contentment. Happiness is fleeting, contentment is permanent.

it was a good interview, and interesting...it could do without the over riding background music

This would have been much better if that background music was not so loud or better yet not even there.

What a good reminder of a 'tips' in life for a better journey, especially as you travel the 'old' years. Loved his tip at the end! LOL!
