On a bright, cheerful morning at Elephant Nature Park, Kham Moon — one of our gentle adult females — was happily playing with a rubber tire. Not far away, the playful youngsters Pyi Mai, Chaba, and Lek Lek spotted super-mum Kham Moon having fun and hurried over, eager to join in.

As soon as they reached her, Kham Moon lovingly stepped aside and let her babies enjoy the tire for themselves. The three little ones wasted no time, taking turns tugging, rolling, and playfully wrestling over it. None of them wanted to give it up, and their friendly competition brought smiles to everyone watching.

    It amazes me how, for as big as they are, they know precisely where that tire is when it is directly behind them. I know they can't see it and yet they never miss it with one of their hind legs. Amazing how they do that.
