COVENTRY CAROL - Camille and Kennerly (HARP TWINS)
Description
This is our arrangement of the classic winter song “Coventry Carol”, which is an English carol dating back to the 16th century. The author of “Coventry Carol” is unknown. Although largely considered a Christmas Carol, this carol is about the “Massacre of the Innocents”, when shortly after the birth of Jesus, Herod ordered that all male infants in Bethlehem under the age of two to be killed: "When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under." ~ Matthew 2:16 Coventry Carol represents a lullaby that is sung from the perspective of the mothers of the doomed children. We focused on harp for our arrangement, but also sang our unique interpretation of the lyrics – including lyrics that we wrote. The intro, outro, and interlude with the “Ah” vocals is also an original melody that we composed for this song. :) :)
