Wyatt Ellis shovels coal into the firebox of tradition with the high-octane debut of his bluegrass band. Their new take on “Choo Choo Coming,” originally penned in 1957 by Pike County, Kentucky mandolinist Cuddles Newsome, signals a new chapter for a song that helped lay the tracks for rockabilly music. When The Stanley Brothers recorded their version a few years later, they cemented its place in the bluegrass canon. Now, nearly 70 years on, Wyatt and his young band are pushing hillbilly music full steam ahead with high-energy picking, tight harmonies, and the powerful drive that defines bluegrass music. Rooted in tradition yet full steam ahead, Wyatt channels the spirit of old-time mountain music while igniting it with youthful fire. His band matches his every move with raw, unfiltered intensity—authentic bluegrass straight from the Smoky Mountains. Immersed in the legacy of vocal legends like Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley, Dudley Connell, and Keith Whitley, Wyatt has honed his craft with relentless dedication. For the past five years, he’s been mentored on vocals by Paul Brewster, a cornerstone of the "Knoxville Sound," whose influence has helped shape the clarity, tone, and emotional power of Wyatt’s singing—carrying forward a regional tradition rooted in heart and harmony. Now, at 16, he's emerging not only as a world-class picker, but as a commanding vocalist and natural bandleader. With this release, Wyatt Ellis doesn’t just honor tradition, he accelerates it, carrying the torch of Appalachian music into the future; grounded in the hills that raised him and driven by a fire all his own.
