Description
At two-three weeks old, the baby goats begin to sleep on their own at night. We give the babies two big connected stalls, but they all cram into one together so they can be with their buddies. This time away from their mother teaches them to eat a little bit of grain and hay and drink water. That way when they go to their new home at eight weeks, they have some experience Taking care of themselves. The moms and babies don’t really complain about the arrangement, I think they’re so tired at the end of the day. Everyone is just happy for some rest, but by morning they are ready to get back together again, so I work fast. I milk each mother a little and give her breakfast before turning them out for a day with the herd. The babies follow shortly after and quickly find their mothers for a drink of milk. Then they spend the day together out in the pasture.
