Video Description:

This year’s Christmas ad from Sainsbury’s – Christmas is for sharing. Made in partnership with The Royal British Legion, it commemorates the extraordinary events of Christmas Day, 1914, when the guns fell silent and two armies met in no-man’s land, sharing gifts – and even playing football together.

I love this story about a real event. We don't need to hate and kill each other. It's the leaders who make the young fight.

  • Marty

Love it. We need some of this today.

  • Steve M

    Absolutely a true story!

    One beautiful video.

  • Ham Todd

Beautiful! What if soldiers just threw down their arms and refused to further kill each other!

One of my favourite cartoon character's is Calvin and Hobbs. My favourite is when he asks his Dad " How do soldiers killing each other solve the world's problems". When his Dad is unable to answer he goes on to say "I think grown-ups just act like they know what they're doing." It's hard to argue with this logic when you look back on this time in history.

The best of all. Thank you!

I've never understood how Christians can kill each other with such abandon. If the soldiers refused to fight, there'd be no fighting. Let the wealthy kill each other. The rest of us have children to raise, fields and farm animals to tend, fish to catch.
    Merry Christmas, Mel. Thank you.

If only the whole world was like this...

Heartwarming. It brought me to tears. Why all these wars? We want to live in a peaceful world, and the Lord wants it too. ................... Merry Peaceful World.

Great video, Mel...However, you forgot the tissue warning. Thank you very much and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS.

  • Mary Jane

Lovely commercial. I think it is also sad, as the very next day, they went back to killing each other.

I totally sobbed. I know that this story is 100% true, and seeing it living before my eyes or the first time - all I could do was cry. A little aside - you may notice the Englishman is wearing a round “medal” hanging from a ribbon; that is hia dog tags, of them on one ribbon. I know, because I have my Grandfather’s tags from WW1 hanging on my office wall; they are identical

How beautiful and peaceful life would be if every nation would lay down their arms and put their ARMS around each other.

  • Paul
