Video Description:

We used to do things that seem absolutely crazy today - and somehow, it all felt perfectly normal. From waterbeds and mood rings to bell-bottom pants, Cabbage Patch Kids, and floppy disks, growing up in America during the 70s, 80s, and 90s was full of unforgettable trends. From smoking everywhere to plastic couch covers and hypercolor shirts, this video takes you on a nostalgic trip through a time that was weird, wonderful, and one of a kind. How many of these do you still remember?

Cigarettes were a major prop in the movies. Both my parents smoked, although I don't remember them doing it except just after dinner. My siblings and I didn't take it up.
Plastic slipcovers may have been uncomfortable, but Nana's beautiful sky blue couch lasted for years! (Yes, we did finally take the plastic off.)
If all you got out of the Disco Era was the clothing, you weren't paying attention to some of the best music of the Rock'n'Roll era.
I still exercise to Jane Fonda's Workout. Nana used to exercise to Jack LaLanne, the Original Home Fitness Guru.
Interesting to think of dial-up modems as a trend. I think the "trend" was actually the computer.
    Fun stuff. Thanks Mel.

My husband and I were members of G.A.S.P. (

We were members of a group called G.A.S.P. (Group Against Smokers' Pollution.) We would go to restaurant and ask to be seated in the Non-Smokers section. Not there? Then we'd leave with a cancelled reservation.

This is a video with good memories. As one of Armenian ancestry, when the Pet Rock Fad came about, i told people that Armenian ladies for thousands of years had pet rocks. Either the lady or a member of her family would search for a rock about three to four inches longs that was smooth. At home, it was washed. When the lady made stuffed vegetables including dried eggplants, fresh tomatoes, green peppers and yellow and zucchini squash, stuffed cabbage (rolled), or stuffed grape leaves - and some used Swiss chard, the pot was filled with the stuffed vegetables. Water was added (still is) to cover, a plate smaller than the diameter of the pot is place upon stuffed vegetables AND THEN, the pet rock was placed, and still is, to hold the plate from moving and to add pressure to the plate to keep the food cooking. So, THE PET ROCK was for us a normal thing. We never bought one.

I am sad to report that I was a part of all that was in the video. After the second leak (the repair kit was good for crap), I converted the waterbed to a standard mattress. Sturdy furniture back then. But I only feared the streetlights coming on and I wasn't home within 10 -15 minutes. My Mom was waiting at the door . . . LOL. Best times EVER!

I loved my heated waterbed! Sorry to see them go. They made some beautiful furniture for the bed. Getting the waveless version was the way to go. i wonder if you can still get them!

Glory to the Lord that all those junk things, which were merely ways to make $$$, are now gone. most should not be praised. Are today's "fun" things even better?
