Video Description:

Update 10/09/02024: This video was taken by a group called "Down South Adventures". Most of it was shot in the area where I live. The image above is where one would turn right to my house. The DOT got the hole you see in the bridge patched yesterday so now we can get to Spruce Pine when needed. The local guys worked on a temporary road for days. It is really rough but sure beats walking out. As you will see in the video, the outpouring of support has been unreal. We have had people from all over bringing in supplies, water and gas. I got a new generator a couple of days ago. Now I have running water and power for a few hours per day. Hopefully the power will be restored in a couple of days. My neighbor across the street is on kidney dialysis, he and his wife have had an awful time. The latest was, they have a much needed Generac generator that was only a year old. It stopped running a couple of days ago. They finely got a guy to come look at it and he said it was going to have to be replaced. That's going to take a while.  Finally, yesterday someone brought them a portable generator. It's been a tough time but everyone has stayed strong. Thank you for all your thoughts, prayers and generous support during these trying times. I will send another update in a few days. Mel

    This is why I live in rural Appalachia. In the larger towns people keep asking "where is FEME? Where is the government. We don't waste time on those kinds of questions. We dig in and the ones who can help the ones who can't. This video is the same from Charlotte west al the to and including Tennessee. And iit will take years to get it all back. But we'll get 'er done.

    How heartbreaking and heart warming. It is going to takes months to return to some normalcy, but you will get back to normal some day. Prayers to everyone who was hit with this devastating storm, and prayers that Florida is spared any worse damage.

    Thank you for sharing this video, Mel. I am amazed at the devastation caused by this hurricane! I am praying for everyone affected by this tragedy. Now we hear that Florida is about to have the worst hurricane they have ever had. I am praying for them, as well.

I'm in Colorado and I cannot believe your devastation, thank God for all the wonderful people you have around to help each other as you say that is what it is all about forget the government. I have a question, I'm not asking to be a smartalec as I truly just don't know, I thought hurricanes only were around coastal areas? but I see this is all in mountains, how does that work. I need a bit of weather taught to me. Thanks, for all you are doing and will be doing. Our real Coloradoans are behind you 100% and i'm sure some are down there helping.

    Thank you so much for sharing this, Mel. I have long contended that adversity brings out either the best or worst in people. It's heart-warming to see the kind of support your community has rallied. and, there are the inevitable scammers. I'm hunkered down preparing for Hurricane Milton in Florida. The eye is going right over my town, but I'm not in an evacuation area, so have prepared and am sitting it out with hopes that we are not without power and water for too long. I know where the shelters are, and as soon as this is over, I'll get to the closest one and do whatever I can that needs doing. For now, just preparing to protect my life and property. I'm disgusted that FEMA hasn't been there. Our tax dollars at work.... NOT. Stay safe. Prayers for your community's quick recovery.
