Video Description:

Mandolin Mondays #218: Hannah Johnson from The Johnsons' Bluegrass Band swings by Mandolin Mondays this week to play a soulful and mournful original tune on her Gibson-made Flatiron Festival F5 mandolin. Originally from Northern Michigan, Hannah first learned about bluegrass in 2016 when she saw Mike Compton play with the Nashville Bluegrass Band. She's been studying Monroe-style ever since. You can hear Hannah play with her sister Lydia in The Johnsons' Bluegrass Band. Their most recent album is called Cloud in Kentucky--check it out here: https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/thejohnso... Here's a word from Hannah about this video, "This tune I wrote is called 'Lonesome for the Blues,' inspired by some of Ronnie McCoury and Mike Compton’s (and of course, Monroe’s) playing, and, interestingly, some tones in African American music that influenced them, a tradition I think is rich and important."
