As one of the oldest extant carols, we knew “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” was the perfect fit for our Winter Lights album! The song is an English carol dating back to at least the 16th century, but the message and lyrics are still as relevant today as they were 500 years ago:
“God rest you merry, gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
For Jesus Christ, our Saviour
Was born upon this day,
To save us all from Satan's power
When we were gone astray.
O tidings of comfort and joy.”
Everything you hear in our arrangement is exactly how we perform it live with our 2 harps: no backing tracks, loops, or extra harp tracks. The intro, outro, and interludes are an original melody that we composed for this song. :) :) We spent a lot of time thinking what the perfect location for our arrangement would be, and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to film again at the magnificent Sanfilippo Estate “Place de la Musique” in Illinois. This is our 8th music video filmed there! This time we were granted permission to film in the new Perfume Passage wing. We felt like Christmas dolls in a magical dollhouse.
