Video Description:

I colorized, restored, and created sound design for This rare 1930s footage captures a continuous journey through Chicago’s South Side, moving along South Park Avenue (now MLK Drive), the 63rd/South Park station area, S. LaSalle Avenue, S. Federal Street, E. 90th Street, Mackinaw Avenue, and Brandon Avenue, showcasing notable locations such as the 6359 Avenue Lounge, Beutner Playground, Katz’s Junk Shop, the South Gate Tavern, the Shrine of St. Jude, and the distant steeple of St. Michael the Archangel. offers an authentic look at working-class neighborhoods, with busy streets, storefronts, and buildings—many of which no longer exist. Scenes filmed at N. Noble Avenue and Crystal Street near Holy Trinity Polish Church belong to Northwest Chicago and do not naturally fit the South Chicago sequence unless needed for runtime. should also be reinstated, as it fully belongs to the South Chicago coverage.
