Video Description:

Remember how Christmas felt when we were growing up? The glow of the lights, the smell of cookies in the kitchen, the sound of family filling the house — everything felt warmer, simpler, and full of joy. For anyone who lived through the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, or even the early 1990s, so many classic Christmas traditions shaped what the holiday season in America used to be.

In this video, we’re looking back at the Christmas traditions we miss the most — the decorations, the stores, the gifts, the homemade treats, the classic holiday rituals, and all the little moments that defined a family Christmas. These were the traditions that made the season magical long before the digital age, before online shopping, and before Christmas looked the way it does today.

Whether you grew up in the 60s, 70s, or 80s, these holiday memories will take you right back to your childhood. So settle in, enjoy the nostalgia, and rediscover the traditions that once made Christmas in America truly unforgettable.

    1. We had a spare bedroom. My brother put up a board and trestle, so you had to crawl to the middle to stand up. That's where the "Christmas trains" ended up. I think he had six of them.
    2. New York City: Macy's, A & S, EJ Korvette, all had the type of display windows mentioned here.
    3. Our neighbor would take us (her daughter, my two siblings, and me) into Manhattan: subway ride, display window viewing, Santa visit, dinner at an Italian restaurant with The Platters always playing. They weren't Christmas songs. Didn't matter, they were The Platters.
    4. Reuse tinsel? Interesting. No, we had a new box each year.
    Thanks Mel! Season's Greetings
